Features and Services at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital

Interventional Radiology

The interventional radiology suite at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital provides the advanced technology our interventional radiologists need to perform specialized minimally invasive procedures that are less stressful for our patients. Commonly performed procedures include uterine fibroid embolization, to shrink fibroid tumors; peripheral vascular arteriogram, to detect blood clots in leg arteries; and filter insertion, to prevent blood clots from traveling to the lungs.

Diagnostic Services

At Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, many diagnostic tests your doctor orders can be performed on an outpatient basis. We provide comfort, convenience and quality results, and we report back to your doctor without delay. Our staff is highly trained and qualified to perform CT and PET scans, MRI, mammography, ultrasound, echocardiograms and X-rays. We also perform nuclear medicine studies, such as cardiac stress tests and cardiac catheterizations, which diagnose blocked arteries.

CT Scan

The CT technicians at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital have the training and experience to deliver the highest quality of care and imaging results possible for our patients and referring physicians. Our state-of-the-art spiral CT scanner produces highly-detailed cross-sectional images or “slices” of the body in a matter of seconds. By clearly revealing even the tiniest differences in soft tissue and bone, CT scans allow our physicians to diagnose illness and injury early when they are most treatable.

Joint Replacement Center

The Inova Joint Replacement Center is a hospital based program with an outstanding regional, national and international reputation. Our specialists, who have cared for patients from 49 states and 31 countries, use the most advanced implants and procedures to perform over 1,200 joint replacement surgeries annually. Patients benefit from an efficient clinical pathway that guides their care from their first pre-surgery meeting through recovery. After discharge from the hospital, 96 percent of our primary hip and knee replacement patients go directly home. As a center of excellence for routine and complicated joint replacements, we are committed to quality patient care, research and teaching.

Wound Healing Center

The specialists at the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Wound Healing Center evaluate non-healing wounds, determine their cause and tailor an individualized plan of treatment for each patient. Our multi-specialty approach, which may include diagnostic testing, nutrition assessment and counseling, occupational and physical therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as home care and prevention education, is designed to speed wound healing and prevent a recurrence.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is the only Northern Virginia hospital that offers hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. HBO benefits conditions in which body tissue requires increased oxygen flow, such as non-healing wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning and decompression sickness, also known as the bends. During therapy, patients breathe100 percent oxygen at above-normal atmospheric pressures for short periods of time while watching movies, listening to music or just relaxing in a specialized chamber.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program promotes heart health through positive lifestyle changes for individuals with congestive heart failure or peripheral artery disease (PAD), those at risk for developing heart disease and patients recovering from a heart attack or cardiac surgery. Participants engage in safe aerobic workouts and strength training. They also learn about blood pressure and blood glucose control, sensible eating, stress management and smoking cessation. A monthly discussion group offers education and support.

The cardiac rehabilitation program also offers enhanced external counter pulsation (EECP®), a noninvasive procedure that increases coronary blood flow to reduce the symptoms of angina.

Inova Rehabilitation Center

The Inova Rehabilitation Center offers an environment in which inpatients and outpatients rebuild meaningful lives. With the help of loved ones and our occupational, physical and speech rehabilitation specialists, patients have the opportunity to go beyond the boundaries of their limitations, regain skills once considered beyond their reach and accommodate for skills no longer available to them.

Easy Street®

On Easy Street, people recovering from a life-changing accident or illness prepare to re-enter the community. Easy Street simulates real life settings in which patients work with occupational, physical and speech therapists to safely relearn activities of daily living, such as grocery shopping, getting into a car or boarding a bus and using an ATM.
